Obviously not all breeders are alike, and even among the relatively normal numbers of Bichon Frise breeders you will also find breeders who are indifferent to their dogs' needs, and who are only in the dog breeding business to make a fast buck.

These places are not breeders they are puppy mills and one of the best things to do is to avoid these kinds of places and stay as far as possible from such Bichon Frise breeders.

There are all kinds of breeders, but these can be thought of as the worst of the lot, the ones whose sole purpose of breeding puppies is to earn profit. They consider their puppies nothing more than a barking, walking commodity and are totally unaware and indifferent when it comes to the happiness and health of their dogs.

Learn How To Locate A Genuine Bichon Frise Breeder

Of course, just as important is to stay away from these inhumane breeders, it is also very important that you do not confuse genuine Bichon Frise dogs with these immoral dogs.

A genuine dog from a reputed breeder is like a valuable gem and needs to be treasured as they provide a service that is very valuable, and it should not be treated in a bad manner.

Questions regarding all aspects of your life would be asked by genuine breeders and this is not done in an attempt to hinder your private life or create any problems for you but to determine whether you would be able to take care of a genuine Bichon puppy.

Another thing that you must understand is that most Bichon Frise breeders are willing to interact with you on topics such as how to care about your new puppy. They will also be willing to inform you how the behavior of your puppy would change as it matures into an adult dog.

Will your puppy be a monster who would chew all your stuff the moment you leave it alone and go out, or would it be cute and adorable? Or will your cute and adorable puppy tear up all your stuff irrespective of the fact that you are home or not?

These are all questions that can be easily answered by Bichon Frise breeders. And they are the reason why you need to find a breeder that will help you not only find the right Bichon Frise puppy for you, but who will also give you an initial leg up on what to do with your puppy.

A Quick Overview Of Dog Health Today

Learn The Basics Of Dog Health

by Coleen Smith

Pet owners absolutely love their pets, and dog owners are no different. People invest lots of time, energy, money, and love into their dogs. This means that dogs represent a large investment in many ways, so it's worth it to pay special attention to their health. If you own a dog it will definitely be worth your time to explore some basic information on dog health.

Dogs are very similar to people in many respects, and therefore, are also subject to many similar ailments. Fortunately there are many things that you can do to reduce the impact of health problems on your dog if you just know a few tips. As they age, dogs are more and more likely to experience bone and joint problems and eye ailments. They are also subject to diseases and conditions regarding their cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems. Although these things are tough to avoid, there are numerous ways to address problems of this nature.

Exercise is a very important part of a dog's life. Some smaller dog breeds don't require a lot of active participation from their owners, since they are able to get exercise indoors. Other breeds may need special attention. Simply allowing your dog to go outside for a bit is usually not adequate, as many dogs will simply lie underneath a tree or in another shady spot. In order to make sure your canine friend gets enough exercise, it's a good idea to actively participate. Ideal activities include taking the dog for a walk or playing catch for fifteen or twenty minutes a day.

A good diet is as important for proper health, energy levels and attitude as the same thing is for people. A bad diet can be fatal for dogs, so a serious approach to dietary habits is important. Dry dog food is usually a better choice than canned dog food. Wet dog food can cause dietary and dental problem and are generally not as nutritional as dry dog food. Don't forget that all animals need access to clean water at all times. Vitally important for your dog's health is avoiding foods that can be fatal. These include chocolates and other sweets, raw meat, as well as raisins, coffee, and mushrooms.

If your dog exhibits signs of illness, discomfort or anxiety, you should take notice. Be alert for any significant changes in your dog's food or water consumption as well as his general behavior. Changes in a dog's regular eating pattern are often the first clue you'll have that something is wrong. Any changes in typical behavior should be observed and reported to a veterinarian.

Make routine visits to your local vet a normal part of your pet's health. It is important to catch potential problems early and to deal with the issue before it progresses. Also be sure to keep all vaccinations and other routine health precautions up to date. This is important in eliminating issues before they begin.

Dogs need love and attention just like people do. Dogs that are well treated and know that they are loved and cared for tend to have better overll health. A loving owner will also be more likely to become aware of shifts in animal health and attitude. Mental health is directly influenced by the amount of love and attention it receives, and mental health is also influential toward overall health. A happy, well-loved dog will live a longer, happier life.

Remember that all dogs are different, and therefore, they will require different responsibilities from you. Find out more about your dog's breed. Do some research on the internet. Talk to your veterinarian. Learn what issues are likely to affect a dog of that breed and age. Rest assured that, with an intelligent and loving approach, your dog should live a long, happy life.

Meeting Other Dogs For The First Time

by Jennifer Carlson

When dogs encounter each other in the wild, their meetings are usually friendly. They instinctively enjoy each other's company, approaching one another with few signs of aggression or hostility. If they meet on neutral ground, they are likely to become quick friends.

When dogs meet in the company of their owners, the outcomes are less predictable. There are several factors that play a role, including where the encounters occur, whether the animals' owners are near, and expectations of deference and authority. Below, we'll explain how canines navigate these waters. You'll learn what to expect when your canine meets another for the first time, and the reasons some confrontations escalate while others lead to lasting friendships.

A Tendency Toward Friendliness

Under normal circumstances, canines look forward to meeting others of their own kind. You will notice this dynamic at dog parks; animals approach each other for the first time, eager to make friends. This friendly interaction assumes both have received socialization training, or have at least been exposed to other people and pets in the past. Common signs include open mouths, wagging tails, and relaxed postures.

Both dogs can quickly identify these signs. They can determine whether the other animal is relaxed and receptive to making friends. They approach each other, sniffing, nudging, and even licking in order to investigate one another. If both are socialized, they are likely to begin playing together. This defines a "normal" first encounter between two canines.

Acknowledging Position And Authority

A lot of canines are more interested in establishing rank and authority between themselves and other animals they meet for the first time. Friendship and play are given a lower priority. Here, first encounters can potentially become problematic if one or both dogs refuse to concede ground.

A typical confrontation begins with the rank-minded animal already tense when approaching the other. The second animal senses the tension, and likewise becomes tense. Both are alert and wary of each other. The first canine may impose himself on the second by placing his paw on the other's backside or shoulder. The response of the latter pet will influence whether the confrontation spirals into a fight.

A fight rarely occurs if the second dog yields. If, on the other hand, he refuses to give ground, the potential for a fight increases substantially.

When Dog Lack Proper Socialization

More troublesome is the pet that has never received proper socialization training. In most cases, the animal has had very little, if any, exposure to people and pets outside his owner. Consequently, he has never developed a sense of trust in them. Upon meeting another dog for the first time, he is likely to be fearful or wary. A common reaction in such circumstances is for the pet to respond aggressively to the presence of another animal.

Much of this reaction is based on fear. Because the canine is on a leash, he is unable to evade the other animal. So, he turns and prepares to fight. Owners whose pets display aggressive behavior should immediately remove them.

Neutral Versus Claimed Territory

In the wild, dogs learn to protect their territory. This territory extends beyond their dens, and includes areas that have been urine-marked. If another animal encroaches upon this territory, its intrusion is met with aggression. The same is true with canines that consider their owners' homes as their own. They consider it their territory. Thus, if they meet another dog in their home, a confrontation may occur unless deference is shown.

Professional trainers suggest limiting first-time encounters between two dogs to areas that are considered neutral. Such areas might include parks, beaches, and neighborhood streets.

Canines are friendly by nature. But they are also pack animals. They adhere to an instinctive sense of hierarchical authority and ownership of territory and resources. Realizing this is an important step toward understanding their interactions when they meet for the first time.

Learn The Basics Of Puppy Potty Training

Puppy Potty Training Made Easy

by Sandy Rutherforde

If you have recently added a puppy to your household, you'll definitely want to make puppy potty training a high priority. Your home will quickly become quite a mess if you don't teach your dog properly. When you decide to go forward with puppy potty training, you may want to take a couple of weeks off to be able to get uninterrupted time with your new puppy. If you don't, it could take you a lot longer to train your puppy.

Just like people, dogs learn new abilities at different rates. It could take awhile for your puppy to get a good understanding of where to go potty and exactly where to stay away from it. It'll require your dog a bit of time to get the picture that it is inappropriate to use any area of your home as a bathroom.

Learn The Basics Of Puppy Potty Training

While puppies are younger, they'll have to go to the bathroom often, possibly even every hour. It is best to anticipate several accidents once you first bring your pet home. Do not get angry because your new dog doesn't understand what he is doing wrong. Always be consistent and use one or two word commands each and every time. This will help your puppy potty training go quicker and much more effectively.

In the event you wish to train your puppy quickly, you will need to pay close attention to him. There will be signs that occur whenever your dog needs to go to the bathroom. He could possibly get restless, smell the floor, and nose around a spot in which he went to the bathroom before. When your pet has recently had his food, or taken a nap, odds are he will really need to relieve himself soon. When you take your dog outdoors to go to the bathroom, take him to the same location each and every time. Do not start any kind of play. This might confuse him about what the purpose of the outdoors visit might actually be. As soon as your dog really does potty outdoors, praise him with a lot of enthusiasm. You could possibly plan to keep small treats handy to strengthen this positive behavior also.

While you are inside, you'll want to keep an eye on your new puppy when he is potty training. Do not allow him to have the chance to fail by making use of some area of the home as the bathroom. You might have to keep him in a small location for now and follow him around when you allow him to wander further.

If you do have to leave your puppy, you may need to put him inside a kennel. Another excellent idea is a fenced yard outdoors when the weather is good. Be certain the young puppy isn't in a kennel any more than 2 hours at any given time when they're getting trained.

Get The Facts On High Fiber Dog Food and Diets

by Matt Knox

High fiber food is recommended by vets for corpulent dogs because it has fewer calories than regular food. Foods with high fiber have an identical effect on dogs that it has on people which we all know is good for us. There are also other added purposes for using food rich in fiber.

One of the other benefits from a high fiber food is that it makes your dog's stool "lumpish" and that can eliminate constipation, it also stimulates your dog's guts and boosts your dog's colon health.

If your dog is diabetic I am absolutely sure you are familiar with the knowledge that a high fiber food has its advantages in controlling the changes in levels of their blood sugar. This naturally is superior for the well being of your dog.

One of the other values of a diet including high fiber food is the prevention of bacteria buildup. When bacteria are able to grow in the bowel it causes sicknesses and bowel cancer can result.

Have you ever heard of "anal gland disease"? This is when the glands around the opening of your pet's anus become infected. You may notice if your animal is scurrying round the floor on his bottom or licking there a lot. For this infection you will have to see your vet. You can decrease the risk of this by employing a high fiber food.

All of the elements of fiber are really carbohydrates. The most familiar ones are rice, bran, corn and peanuts.

Fiber is not considered a required ingredient in dog food. I was shocked to find this out. I was also startled to find out that what most commercial dog food makers use for fiber is hair or newspaper. You must be wary when purchasing your pet food from your corner shop.

Fiber is obligatory for your dog's well being, but too much fiber can cause gut rot or gas.

Check with your vet and discover if your pet should have a high fiber food. Perhaps all of your buddy needs is some additional fiber. You can give your dog these things to extend their fiber intake :

Tomato Apples Wheat Rice

If your vet announces that your dog would do better with a high fiber food you can look towards getting a holistic dog food, or making home made dog food. When making homemade dog food you can put in the ingredients that are best for your dog. Holistic dog food will have natural foods which are normally higher in fiber.

Resisting the adorable face staring at you in the kennel at a breeders house is going to be really hard " until he makes his first mess on your carpet. Puppy house training should always be the initial step in setting up a good and proper relationship with your new dog; however, it can also very well be the reason of disappointment for some dog owners.

The good news is that there are some tried and true techniques that will have your dog pottying in the appropriate spot quickly and without the headache. Read on for tips for puppy house training that will make the first few weeks with your new pup a little easier to handle.

Training using Crates

A lot of people have been using crates as a tool to use in puppy house training for several reasons. Dogs would normally not go to the bathroom in the same area that they sleep in, so keeping them in confinement such as the crate will help your pup to hold its urges to pee until he is detached from the crate. Once youve removed your dog from its crate, take him directly outdoors so he can do his business. And when he does, make sure that you offer the positive reinforcement so that it encourages him to use your backyard the next time he wants to pee or poop.

A crate being utilized in puppy house training will also provide a comfortable and safe place for your pet to sleep in when you are too busy to keep an eye on him. This is mostly useful when you are away from home or when you are sleeping or resting.

When you leave your pups unattended to their own devices can often become destructive. Having a crate will offer an atmosphere where he is unlikely to become injured or get into trouble. When it is your pups first time to use the crate, ensure that he stays in the crate for a short time, and just gradually extend his time in the crate as it gets more relaxed with its environment. Remember not to leave your dog in a crate for longer than 6 hours or 8 hours the most.

Cleaning the Mess

When your puppy does have an accident in the house, it is best to ignore the mess rather than put your pup's nose in it or scold him. Take your puppy outside to show him the proper place to potty and then clean up the mess while your dog is not around to watch you.

It is important to completely eliminate the smell while puppy house training, because a dog will return to the scent to potty again in the same spot. There are very good commercial cleaners on the market today that effectively clean up such messes.

Puppy house training is a process that requires plenty of time and patience, but it is far from impossible. With consistency and the help of a crate, your dog will learn the appropriate place to potty in no time. Puppy house training is the first step in raising a dog that is a pleasure to his entire family.

Crate Training Benefits

See How You Can House Break Your  Dog In 1 Week - Claim Your Free Tips Here!

1137572 bernese mountain dog 1 Crate Training Benefits

by Donna Mihajlov

Crate training benefits both your dog and yourself, the loving dog owner. Your dog will be more loving and affectionate towards family members when he understands his boundaries.

The Benefits of Crate Training Your Dog

Housebreaking Will Be Much Easier

No dog enjoys resting in his own mess, therefore your dog will tend to gain better bladder control when confined to his crate. This will make housebreaking easier when you then associate going outside with the act of relieving himself.

Dogs, being den animals, generally like their place clean and quiet. It is also good to remember that puppies need to go more often, so do not keep them in the crate for a long period.

A Crate Stops Destructive Behaviors

It is natural for your dog to enjoy chewing. They need to be taught what are acceptable things to chew on and prevent them from chewing on the wrong things, like chair legs, shoes, socks, etc. Consequently, your job is not to stop your dog from chewing, but provide the right things to chew on in the right place. By providing safe chew toys to your dog in his crate, you accomplish two things: you make the crate a wonderful place to be in and you teach him what are the acceptable chew toys in the house.

Dog Crates Protects Your Dog from Household Hazards

A house contains hundreds of potentially lethal objects for your dog. If you let your dog roams freely in the house unsupervised, you are really asking for trouble and you unnecessarily put your dog in danger. Your dog may not realize that chewing on electrical wires or eating plants or certain foods can potentially be dangerous.

Proper crate training of your dog provides more confidence that your dog will limit getting in trouble even when you are not around to supervise.

Traveling in a Car Is Safer

Your car trips will be safer and more peaceful if your dog is resting contently in his crate. A crate trained dog will eliminate any possible distractions as you drive.

Crates provides a safe place for your dog when he is tired, not feeling well or just wants to be alone.

Dog naturally seek refuge in small enclosed spaces like a den. Dog crates will provide your dog that nice place to hangout in when needing rest. Crate training your dog will also prepare him for potentially stressful situations like going to the vet.

Two of the things that you will have to get in the habit of exercising is will and patience. These are needed along with consistency to get positive results when you are house training a dog. Even though you will not be able to watch your dog around the clock, there are effective ways you can send a positive message to them to stop wetting the floor when you are not present.

Oh no, they pooped on the floor. Don't be alarmed in the early developmental stages because they will not have control of their bowel movement and bladder. The more they eat, the frequency increases.

1119651 4 House Training A Dog Easy Techniques

To start out, find a suitable, out of the way area to make a restricted home for the dog. Cover the floor with paper. Also cover the floor with their food, water, bed, and any play toys they enjoy. This is the first test. Typically, your dog will not potty on his bed or on his food or water. They may not care about the toys at the time.

This is a great way to begin training. The dog will begin to use the paper somewhere away from the places he enjoys or that are comforting to him. Finally, they will find a spot that they will always do it in. This will be their own self-discovered personal bathroom.

You're off to a very good start and the dog is learning. Once you have identified the dog is picky about where they do it in their confined area, it's time for the next step. Put paper around the house. When the dog has freedom in the house and goes to the bathroom on the floor, put his nose in the vicinity of it and take him to the paper on the floor. The dog is sensitive to the smell. If you practice this process with consistency, the dog will soon catch on and before you know it he will use the paper instead.

Over time the dog will go to the paper around the house when they have to do it. When they do be sure to get excited and congratulate them for a job well done. Go a step further and put papers in different locations and show the dog where they are at. If the dog continues using the paper in the new locations, you have accomplished the first steps in house training a dog. It is that easy.

The next feat is to finally get your dog to stop going in the house and head outside instead. This will be easy because dogs love the great outdoors. Position all of the paper on the floor near the doors leading to your backyard.

At this time, the dog is trained to use the paper. When he uses the paper as you have done such a good job training him to do, put their nose near it and point to the door. Then open the door and let him run out and play. By consistently repeating this process, your dog will soon catch on and will begin scratching the door when it is time to go potty.

Potty Train Your Dog in 7 Days - Find Out How!

by Peter Albertony

Having a puppy or a dog is a serious business. It's fun for sure, but there's some work involved. And one of the first things you'll need to tackle when you have a new puppy is house breaking your puppy. Potty training puppies is no picnic.

Unless you know what you're doing it can be quite hard house breaking puppy.

And if you get it wrong the results can be disastrous for your puppy, for you and for your family. House training a puppy correctly is a must.

And it may not even be a puppy you're house breaking. Not everyone starts with a puppy, some for various reasons end up with an adult dog. Not that it's impossible to house train an adult dog, but like a puppy you need to know what you're doing.

Now I'm not going to tell you all the steps to house breaking puppies here, I don't have the space or time, and I reserve that for my website. But I will offer a few tips here where I have space.

1205611 young dog enjoying a walk Having Trouble Housebreaking Your Puppy?

Firstly remember that you rule the house. In your dog or puppy's eyes you are the boss dog, you need to remember that. It is you who sets the rules and you who enforces them. This certainly doesn't mean that you punish your dog for breaking the rules of potty training, punishment isn't effective, but it does mean that you should learn exactly what you need to do to potty train your puppy, then follow through consistently.

Your dog expects you to set the rules and is looking to you to set effective boundaries on his behavior. So you need to be firm in setting the rules and teaching him what they are.

Instead of punishing your dog for a breach of the rules you need to use positive reinforcement. In the past it the accepted wisdom was to show him the rules, for example where his potty place was, then punish him for every breach till he got it right. This can take a long time and subject you both to a lot of stress.

And potty training a puppy is a process that takes as long as it takes. Regardless of how long it takes. Every dog or puppy is different. There is no recommended time, it will take as long as it takes. It will work if you're doing it right, it just may not work tomorrow.

It may take a while, it may not. Expect it to take while and be surprised if it doesn't.

House breaking a puppy is a process that both of you need to go through to the end. You need to learn exactly what to do, do it consistently for as long as it takes and you will succeed.

It's about you as much as it's about him. Know what you're doing and do it as long as you need to, consistently. Find out more advice about house breaking puppy at my website.

Some Basics For Housetraining Your Puppy

Discover How to Potty Train Your New Puppy in Just 7 Days!

by Eric Renfro

Puppies should be house trained as early as possible. Over 80% of dogs in the U.S. are kept inside the home by their owners. Failing to properly teach them to control their bladders and bowels will have frustrating consequences later. Fortunately, providing a healthy does of consistent discipline, patience, and attention upfront can help ensure your pup is housebroken early. There will be accidents, so plan for them. In the same way toddlers eventually learn to use the toilet, your puppy will also learn to avoid making a mess in your home.

free 281438 Some Basics For Housetraining Your Puppy

In this article, we'll describe two important ground rules that you should follow when housetraining your puppy. We'll also explain why establishing a routine is critical and how to handle the occasional accident when it happens.

Establishing The Ground Rules

Owners who are trying to housebreak their puppies often punish them when they make a mess, even if they don't catch them in the act. Avoid doing this. If you see you pup having an accident, a stern "no!" is good enough. There's no need for punishment; in fact, punishing him can have a negative effect.

Also, be generous with your praise. If your puppy is doing things properly, let him know. Remember, dogs need positive reinforcement from their owners. If you only reproach him when he makes a mess and neglect to recognize his successes, it will have a lasting effect.

The Value Of A Routine

The importance of a regular routine when house training your pup cannot be overstated. The repetition reinforces positive behavior. First, make sure you're providing your pup with plenty of opportunities to go outside; once every two hours is appropriate because they cannot control their bladders for long. Second, choose a specific spot outside that he can use to eliminate, and stick to it. If he has an accident, place the rags you use to clean it up in that spot. The odor will remind him where he is supposed to eliminate.

Third, establish a routine that includes regular feeding, playing, and walking time for him. That will help him adopt a consistent elimination schedule.

Paying Attention And Dealing With Accidents

When your pup is indoors, watch him. Don't allow him to roam freely throughout your house. That is an invitation for him to leave a hidden "surprise" for you. Instead, confine him to a certain area and pay attention to signs that he needs to eliminate. When you notice those signs, take him to his designated elimination spot and praise him for his success.

As noted, your puppy will have a few accidents. Don't punish him. If you catch him making a mess inside, interrupt him without scaring him (avoid yelling or chasing him). Take him to his designated area so he can finish. Then, praise him for it. Too many owners are quick to punish their puppies for having an accident. The result is that a pup learns to fear his owner.

Housetraining a puppy requires patience and diligence. However, if you approach it in the right manner, your pup will not only learn to control himself, he'll learn to trust you in the process.

Potty Training Methods for your Pet Dog

There is a new member in the household and no its not another human being. Having a dog around, to most people, is like having a dependable, loyal friend. Dogs can be cute, cuddly, playful- especially the little ones. Owners know they will feel greater attachment to dogs who started with them as puppies. Then there is the reality that you have to potty train them when they start littering around the house.

First important tip is to stick to a schedule when feeding the dog. This makes you anticipate his activity better. Be consistent in what you feed your dog, when you feed it, when you give it water and when you take the dog out for a walk.

Stick to dry food - one that makes his stool consistent. Good quality, dry food helps him develop good eating habits. It should also positively affect how solid his stools are, his potty schedule and his ability to control when he has the urge.

Once he shows the need, lead him to the designated place where he can do his thing. Show how he should position himself properly. Do this regularly. If he poops outside of the area, clean the mess immediately and mask the odor.

Use a handy leash to lead him around. You can take him outside for a walk once he is done. Dogs love spending time outside walking with their owners.

Don't take him back immediately. Let him have some fun. Praise him if he does it right. Reinforce the idea regularly.

Lastly, learn how to effectively communicate with the dog. This makes it a lot easier during the training process. Praise him whenever he does it right. All dogs love to praise their owners.

Crate Training A Puppy For Beginners

House Train Your Dog or Puppy In 7 Days - Learn How!

by John Roley

Crate training your puppy can be very beneficial to you and your puppy. Many people mistake the crate as being a place to punish the puppy, when actually this is the safest spot for the puppy to go once the puppy gets used to it.

If you have a crate and leave it open, your puppy will start to go to it when he gets sleepy or when he gets confused. Although puppies tend to like crates, you shouldn't overuse one by allowing him to spend hours at a time inside of one.

Once you puppy gets used to being in the crate at any given time, you can leave him in there for a couple of hours at a time. One example would be if you were not home, you could keep your puppy in the crate, which will also aid in the puppy not destroying the house.

So when you are on the way to pick up your puppy, you should already have a crate set up in your home for when the puppy arrives. When it comes to the crate placement, any centralized area where there is not a lot of walk through traffic would be ideal.

When you bring the puppy home, you should put him inside the house and allow him to start searching for the crate. Leave the door to the crate open, and the puppy should start to wander in and out of it. You can also put a toy or dog treat inside the crate, to give your puppy extra incentive to enter. Once he goes inside praise him, and let him know that he is doing the right thing.

Once your puppy starts going into the crate by itself, you should reward it. You can do this by giving him a dog treat or a new kind of puppy toy to mess around with. This is when you know that your puppy is getting used to the crate.

Now that the puppy is getting used to the crate, you can shut the door and monitor the puppies reaction. Some puppies may start to whine when the door to the crate is closed, this is normal you just have to make sure that you do not let the puppy out just because it is whining, wait until the puppy is calm.

There are many benefits to crate training your puppy. If you are having guests over or if you have to leave the house you can put the puppy in the crate, and if he is properly crate trained he will not mind at all and wait patiently until you let him out.

Is crate training a good way to train your dog? There are plenty of people on both sides of this question; crating, as you may know is a method of dog training which involves keeping your dog in a small cage for short periods of time. The cage, or crate as it is called is typically metal or plastic and is just large enough for the dog to turn around in, but no larger.

PebblesPuppies2005 Is Crate Training The Correct Move For Your Dog?

The proponents of crate training maintain that a dog which has been crate trained is easier to housebreak, since crating a dog teaches them to hold off on elimination until they are allowed outside. Since animals instinctively are reluctant to do this in the place where they lie down, the thinking goes, this helps to speed along housebreaking. They also point to crates as a place which a dog can consider as its own private space where it can escape from the antics of children in the household and be comforted by its familiar smell.

One criticism leveled against crate training is that it is unnatural for a dog to spend any length of time in a confined space where it can't engage in its natural habits of exploring and roaming. It prevents dogs from being as active as they naturally are and is an unpleasant experience for the animal, they argue.

Those against argue with the position held by crate proponents that crating makes housebreaking a dog easier and that despite a dog's abhorrence of soiling its own space, puppies are especially prone to doing so; which makes it more difficult, not easier to housebreak them.

Both sides want only the best for their pets and the arguments made by both sides have merit. There has been some research into crate training, but there is no hard and fast answer, other than that if done with care and common sense crate training can be beneficial to some dogs and has no ill effect.

You'll want to avoid keeping your dog in such a small place for an extended period of time. You shouldnt keep your pet in the crate for more than four hours at the most. A longer time than this is uncomfortable for your dog and is also an unreasonably long time to expect most dogs to resist nature's call.

There is also the concern that a caged dog can accidentally injure itself. It's important to make sure that the dog's collar will not snag on the cage and that the cage is free of sharp edges, as well as that the cage is sturdy enough not to tip over or break when pushed by your dog.

One benefit that fans of crate training point out is that these animals deal better with travel, since they've become accustomed to confined spaces and have familiar smells to comfort them in their cage.

Many pet owners maintain that unless you are making a permanent relocation you should leave your pet at home, since they will be happier in a familiar place. If you need to take your pet along on a trip, make sure to use a very well built cage which won't tip and will keep things from getting in, not just out.

There's not going to be an agreement on crate training in the near future; that much is certain. It's best to decide for yourself. Try crating your dog for a couple of weeks, followed by leaving the door of the crate open and let your dog vote with their feet " do they steer clear of the crate or do they choose it as a favored spot for their naps? Let your dog have a say and you'll have a happier pet.

House Train Your Dog In Only 7 Days!

by Kevin Lynch

Housetraining is regularly the first thing that a new puppy owner thinks about. Few puppies have received any training on housetraining before they go to their new homes. There are two uncomplicated methods that you can use to housetrain your puppy and you can use either one of them or you can employ both of them at the same time.

The first way to train your puppy is to be very cautious and watch his conduct. Puppies will cower to urinate and defecate. You must watch your puppy very carefully and as soon as he starts to change his posture then scoop him up and take him to his chosen spot. If you happen to overlook the sign and he has an accident, you should never scold him as he is still just learning and he does not know what is expected of him yet. Scolding him will just scare him unreasonably.

Also, if you miss the signs totally and you find an mishap later it will not do you any good to admonish him them. Dogs cannot think logically and they do not recognize what they are being scolded for after the fact. They can only relate to what is happening right now. If you scold your puppy it will just bewilder and terrify him and cause you more trouble in the future.

The newspaper technique is the second way of housetraining your puppy. Hide the entire floor where your puppy runs around. He will do his business on the paper and he will quickly learn that the newspaper is satisfactory. You must then steadily take away more and more newspaper until there is only a small piece left. Then you will be able to take the newspaper outside to the designated spot. He will then start going there where the paper is.

Both of these methods can be very valuable. You may want to use the first method of vigilance during the day and the newspapers at night. If you are frequently occupied with other things you may want to use the newspaper method more often.

At times an older puppy will go through a stage where he seems to have forgotten what he has learned about housetraining. This can be tremendously provoking but try not to chastise him for it. It is a common behavior.

beagle puppy Two Helpful Methods To Housetrain Your New Puppy

Just use characteristic dog conduct to get him back on track. A dog will hardly ever dirty his own room. So use a crate and make it cozy so he thinks of it as his own. Let him snooze in the crate and immediately as you let him out, take him to his chosen spot. He will need to alleviate himself right away and he will understand to only do it in that spot.

Housetraining does not need to be complicated or daunting. Both of these methods can be quite successful and if you try them along with some endurance you will be successful with your housetraining before you know it.

Potty Training Secrets - Your Dog Trained in Just 7 Days - Learn How!

by Craig Clemins

Crates have become a popular training method in recent times. They have helped dog owners train difficult dogs and have in fact influenced the number (reduced) of dog abandonment. Crates allow dogs to be trained in a safe secure environment.

Crates can be of great use when you are traveling and also for when you are house training your dog. They have many benefits, some of which I will outline below.

Debate over whether crates should be used for cog training is evident, most commonly between veterinarians and dog trainers. Many vets disapprove of crate training dogs while many professional dog trainers swear by it.

Veterinarians question whether or not a dog is being inhumanely treated when it is enclosed in a crate. The fact is that crates have numerous benefits that lead to you having a better bond with your dog. Furthermore, when dogs are trained properly they have a sense of safety and security when they are inside their crates.

Other advantages to having a crate for your dog is that you will be able to leave your dog at home without worrying about them wrecking furnishings, or soiling your carpets and you give them a safe place to relax when you are away. Dogs tend not to go to the toilet in their bed, the crate will help you to teach them outside elimination, helps them to avoid having accidents in your home. It will also keep them from destroying your house while you are working and allows him to take family trips without feeling uncomfortable.

Avoid leaving your dog in its crate all day. They need an opportunity every few hours to stretch their legs and exercise if possible. You should also try to let them out every one in a while to go to the toilet.

Some dogs find crate training a breeze while others are not so passionate about it. Try to find out what works best for your dog and stick with it - always remember that no two dogs are the same so be prepared to be flexible.

Crate training works best when your dog is still a puppy. If you seem that no matter how persistent you are with your dog, you never get results, it might be time to stop attempting to use this method and to try a different one.
