Crate training benefits both your dog and yourself, the loving dog owner. Your dog will be more loving and affectionate towards family members when he understands his boundaries.

The Benefits of Crate Training Your Dog

Housebreaking Will Be Much Easier

No dog enjoys resting in his own mess, therefore your dog will tend to gain better bladder control when confined to his crate. This will make housebreaking easier when you then associate going outside with the act of relieving himself.

Dogs, being den animals, generally like their place clean and quiet. It is also good to remember that puppies need to go more often, so do not keep them in the crate for a long period.

A Crate Stops Destructive Behaviors

It is natural for your dog to enjoy chewing. They need to be taught what are acceptable things to chew on and prevent them from chewing on the wrong things, like chair legs, shoes, socks, etc. Consequently, your job is not to stop your dog from chewing, but provide the right things to chew on in the right place. By providing safe chew toys to your dog in his crate, you accomplish two things: you make the crate a wonderful place to be in and you teach him what are the acceptable chew toys in the house.

Dog Crates Protects Your Dog from Household Hazards

A house contains hundreds of potentially lethal objects for your dog. If you let your dog roams freely in the house unsupervised, you are really asking for trouble and you unnecessarily put your dog in danger. Your dog may not realize that chewing on electrical wires or eating plants or certain foods can potentially be dangerous.

Proper crate training of your dog provides more confidence that your dog will limit getting in trouble even when you are not around to supervise.

Traveling in a Car Is Safer

Your car trips will be safer and more peaceful if your dog is resting contently in his crate. A crate trained dog will eliminate any possible distractions as you drive.

Crates provides a safe place for your dog when he is tired, not feeling well or just wants to be alone.

Dog naturally seek refuge in small enclosed spaces like a den. Dog crates will provide your dog that nice place to hangout in when needing rest. Crate training your dog will also prepare him for potentially stressful situations like going to the vet.

Crate training a dog is not only good for your dog - but also good for you. Do yourself and your dog a favor and start crate training him today!

Two of the things that you will have to get in the habit of exercising is will and patience. These are needed along with consistency to get positive results when you are house training a dog. Even though you will not be able to watch your dog around the clock, there are effective ways you can send a positive message to them to stop wetting the floor when you are not present.

Oh no, they pooped on the floor. Don't be alarmed in the early developmental stages because they will not have control of their bowel movement and bladder. The more they eat, the frequency increases.

1119651 4 House Training A Dog Easy Techniques

To start out, find a suitable, out of the way area to make a restricted home for the dog. Cover the floor with paper. Also cover the floor with their food, water, bed, and any play toys they enjoy. This is the first test. Typically, your dog will not potty on his bed or on his food or water. They may not care about the toys at the time.

This is a great way to begin training. The dog will begin to use the paper somewhere away from the places he enjoys or that are comforting to him. Finally, they will find a spot that they will always do it in. This will be their own self-discovered personal bathroom.

You're off to a very good start and the dog is learning. Once you have identified the dog is picky about where they do it in their confined area, it's time for the next step. Put paper around the house. When the dog has freedom in the house and goes to the bathroom on the floor, put his nose in the vicinity of it and take him to the paper on the floor. The dog is sensitive to the smell. If you practice this process with consistency, the dog will soon catch on and before you know it he will use the paper instead.

Over time the dog will go to the paper around the house when they have to do it. When they do be sure to get excited and congratulate them for a job well done. Go a step further and put papers in different locations and show the dog where they are at. If the dog continues using the paper in the new locations, you have accomplished the first steps in house training a dog. It is that easy.

The next feat is to finally get your dog to stop going in the house and head outside instead. This will be easy because dogs love the great outdoors. Position all of the paper on the floor near the doors leading to your backyard.

At this time, the dog is trained to use the paper. When he uses the paper as you have done such a good job training him to do, put their nose near it and point to the door. Then open the door and let him run out and play. By consistently repeating this process, your dog will soon catch on and will begin scratching the door when it is time to go potty.

Having Trouble Housebreaking Your Puppy?

Potty Train Your Dog in 7 Days - Find Out How!

by Peter Albertony

Having a puppy or a dog is a serious business. It's fun for sure, but there's some work involved. And one of the first things you'll need to tackle when you have a new puppy is house breaking your puppy. Potty training puppies is no picnic.

Unless you know what you're doing it can be quite hard house breaking puppy.

And if you get it wrong the results can be disastrous for your puppy, for you and for your family. House training a puppy correctly is a must.

And it may not even be a puppy you're house breaking. Not everyone starts with a puppy, some for various reasons end up with an adult dog. Not that it's impossible to house train an adult dog, but like a puppy you need to know what you're doing.

Now I'm not going to tell you all the steps to house breaking puppies here, I don't have the space or time, and I reserve that for my website. But I will offer a few tips here where I have space.

1205611 young dog enjoying a walk Having Trouble Housebreaking Your Puppy?

Firstly remember that you rule the house. In your dog or puppy's eyes you are the boss dog, you need to remember that. It is you who sets the rules and you who enforces them. This certainly doesn't mean that you punish your dog for breaking the rules of potty training, punishment isn't effective, but it does mean that you should learn exactly what you need to do to potty train your puppy, then follow through consistently.

Your dog expects you to set the rules and is looking to you to set effective boundaries on his behavior. So you need to be firm in setting the rules and teaching him what they are.

Instead of punishing your dog for a breach of the rules you need to use positive reinforcement. In the past it the accepted wisdom was to show him the rules, for example where his potty place was, then punish him for every breach till he got it right. This can take a long time and subject you both to a lot of stress.

And potty training a puppy is a process that takes as long as it takes. Regardless of how long it takes. Every dog or puppy is different. There is no recommended time, it will take as long as it takes. It will work if you're doing it right, it just may not work tomorrow.

It may take a while, it may not. Expect it to take while and be surprised if it doesn't.

House breaking a puppy is a process that both of you need to go through to the end. You need to learn exactly what to do, do it consistently for as long as it takes and you will succeed.

It's about you as much as it's about him. Know what you're doing and do it as long as you need to, consistently. Find out more advice about house breaking puppy at my website.

House Training For The New Puppy Owner

Get Your Free Dog Potty Training Tips - Go Here Now!

by Matt McGrath

It is always a fun and exciting time when you get a new puppy. Puppies melt your heart with their cute little antics and their adorable faces but as every new puppy owner soon learns there is one challenging aspect that they all must deal with and that is puppy house training.

You will need to work closely with and have patience with your new puppy when it comes to housetraining. A puppy is only a baby and a puppy does not have the comprehension level yet to know what you want him to do. It will be easier to complete your puppy house training if you are patient and loving with your puppy. Even though it is disappointing when your puppy goes potty in the house if you are impatient and express anger your puppy housetraining will take longer.

House Training For The New Puppy Owner

At the beginning you may need to take your puppy out as often as 2 to 3 times in an hour. That may sound like a lot but a little puppy does not yet understand how to control himself and the active playing that most puppies engage in creates urine. Nighttime may be better as a resting puppy will not need to go out as often. Do not wake a sleeping puppy just to go out to potty but rather just make sure and take him out as soon as you can after he awakens.

The most crucial aspect to puppy house training is to be consistent. Use consistent commands, take him to the same spot and give him the same praise and treats. Your puppy will learn fast if you consistently do things the same way but change anything up and he may get confused. Puppies respond well to consistency.

As you are housetraining your puppy you will need to make sure that the experience is as positive as possible for your puppy. If he ever develops any fear of your reactions or if he ever feels fear that he is doing it wrong your potty training efforts will take more time. Your puppy wants to please you and if he does not know how to do that it will take longer for him to learn about potty training.

It is unlikely that you will be able to spend all of your time with your puppy so when you need to be away from your puppy you should put him in a crate. Puppies and dogs are natural den animals and they crave a small place of their own. Also, puppies will rarely dirty their own space so a crate will assist you in teaching your puppy how to control himself.

The most important aspects of puppy house training are to be consistent and positive. Make sure that you take your puppy outside frequently, especially at the beginning. Always use just one spot for his elimination spot and use consistent commands. Give him lots of praise for completing his chore and make sure that the experience is not a scary one for him.

Puppy house training is the most crucial part of owning a new puppy and you can train your puppy in just a few short weeks if you are consistent and positive about the training. You will then be able to enjoy your puppy more as he grows and you will never have to worry about accidents in the house again.

Make sure that you place them in a part of the yard that you want them to do their bodily functions and let them know that it is their spot. As they become older they will eventually know that this is their spot and they will do all their business without being told.

You will soon realize that house training a puppy is not that difficult and will be very easy if you are willing to stand there with them while they do what they need to do. As soon as they finish going potty ensure that you give them plenty of praise when they are doing. Keep taking them to the same spot that you want them to do their business everyday until they are able to walk out there on their own. As long as you are persistent and continuous with your training they will eventually learn to pick up that new habit.

You do not have to be mean or punish them in any way if they accidentally go in the house. Just make sure that you clean up the mess very well with some cleaning solutions that will remove the smells. They are less likely to go in the same spot if they can not smell the accident.

Never get careless and punish your new puppy to where they become scared of you. One of the most important things that you have to remember about house training a puppy is that it is going to take patience for both of you to learn your new habits. Give them time to learn their new habits and stay consistent with your training; eventually they will pick up their new habits.

Crate Training A Puppy For Beginners

House Train Your Dog or Puppy In 7 Days - Learn How!

by John Roley

Crate training your puppy can be very beneficial to you and your puppy. Many people mistake the crate as being a place to punish the puppy, when actually this is the safest spot for the puppy to go once the puppy gets used to it.

If you have a crate and leave it open, your puppy will start to go to it when he gets sleepy or when he gets confused. Although puppies tend to like crates, you shouldn't overuse one by allowing him to spend hours at a time inside of one.

Once you puppy gets used to being in the crate at any given time, you can leave him in there for a couple of hours at a time. One example would be if you were not home, you could keep your puppy in the crate, which will also aid in the puppy not destroying the house.

So when you are on the way to pick up your puppy, you should already have a crate set up in your home for when the puppy arrives. When it comes to the crate placement, any centralized area where there is not a lot of walk through traffic would be ideal.

When you bring the puppy home, you should put him inside the house and allow him to start searching for the crate. Leave the door to the crate open, and the puppy should start to wander in and out of it. You can also put a toy or dog treat inside the crate, to give your puppy extra incentive to enter. Once he goes inside praise him, and let him know that he is doing the right thing.

Once your puppy starts going into the crate by itself, you should reward it. You can do this by giving him a dog treat or a new kind of puppy toy to mess around with. This is when you know that your puppy is getting used to the crate.

Now that the puppy is getting used to the crate, you can shut the door and monitor the puppies reaction. Some puppies may start to whine when the door to the crate is closed, this is normal you just have to make sure that you do not let the puppy out just because it is whining, wait until the puppy is calm.

There are many benefits to crate training your puppy. If you are having guests over or if you have to leave the house you can put the puppy in the crate, and if he is properly crate trained he will not mind at all and wait patiently until you let him out.

Is crate training a good way to train your dog? There are plenty of people on both sides of this question; crating, as you may know is a method of dog training which involves keeping your dog in a small cage for short periods of time. The cage, or crate as it is called is typically metal or plastic and is just large enough for the dog to turn around in, but no larger.

PebblesPuppies2005 Is Crate Training The Correct Move For Your Dog?

The proponents of crate training maintain that a dog which has been crate trained is easier to housebreak, since crating a dog teaches them to hold off on elimination until they are allowed outside. Since animals instinctively are reluctant to do this in the place where they lie down, the thinking goes, this helps to speed along housebreaking. They also point to crates as a place which a dog can consider as its own private space where it can escape from the antics of children in the household and be comforted by its familiar smell.

One criticism leveled against crate training is that it is unnatural for a dog to spend any length of time in a confined space where it can't engage in its natural habits of exploring and roaming. It prevents dogs from being as active as they naturally are and is an unpleasant experience for the animal, they argue.

Those against argue with the position held by crate proponents that crating makes housebreaking a dog easier and that despite a dog's abhorrence of soiling its own space, puppies are especially prone to doing so; which makes it more difficult, not easier to housebreak them.

Both sides want only the best for their pets and the arguments made by both sides have merit. There has been some research into crate training, but there is no hard and fast answer, other than that if done with care and common sense crate training can be beneficial to some dogs and has no ill effect.

You'll want to avoid keeping your dog in such a small place for an extended period of time. You shouldnt keep your pet in the crate for more than four hours at the most. A longer time than this is uncomfortable for your dog and is also an unreasonably long time to expect most dogs to resist nature's call.

There is also the concern that a caged dog can accidentally injure itself. It's important to make sure that the dog's collar will not snag on the cage and that the cage is free of sharp edges, as well as that the cage is sturdy enough not to tip over or break when pushed by your dog.

One benefit that fans of crate training point out is that these animals deal better with travel, since they've become accustomed to confined spaces and have familiar smells to comfort them in their cage.

Many pet owners maintain that unless you are making a permanent relocation you should leave your pet at home, since they will be happier in a familiar place. If you need to take your pet along on a trip, make sure to use a very well built cage which won't tip and will keep things from getting in, not just out.

There's not going to be an agreement on crate training in the near future; that much is certain. It's best to decide for yourself. Try crating your dog for a couple of weeks, followed by leaving the door of the crate open and let your dog vote with their feet " do they steer clear of the crate or do they choose it as a favored spot for their naps? Let your dog have a say and you'll have a happier pet.

House Train Your Dog In Only 7 Days!

by Kevin Lynch

Housetraining is regularly the first thing that a new puppy owner thinks about. Few puppies have received any training on housetraining before they go to their new homes. There are two uncomplicated methods that you can use to housetrain your puppy and you can use either one of them or you can employ both of them at the same time.

The first way to train your puppy is to be very cautious and watch his conduct. Puppies will cower to urinate and defecate. You must watch your puppy very carefully and as soon as he starts to change his posture then scoop him up and take him to his chosen spot. If you happen to overlook the sign and he has an accident, you should never scold him as he is still just learning and he does not know what is expected of him yet. Scolding him will just scare him unreasonably.

Also, if you miss the signs totally and you find an mishap later it will not do you any good to admonish him them. Dogs cannot think logically and they do not recognize what they are being scolded for after the fact. They can only relate to what is happening right now. If you scold your puppy it will just bewilder and terrify him and cause you more trouble in the future.

The newspaper technique is the second way of housetraining your puppy. Hide the entire floor where your puppy runs around. He will do his business on the paper and he will quickly learn that the newspaper is satisfactory. You must then steadily take away more and more newspaper until there is only a small piece left. Then you will be able to take the newspaper outside to the designated spot. He will then start going there where the paper is.

Both of these methods can be very valuable. You may want to use the first method of vigilance during the day and the newspapers at night. If you are frequently occupied with other things you may want to use the newspaper method more often.

At times an older puppy will go through a stage where he seems to have forgotten what he has learned about housetraining. This can be tremendously provoking but try not to chastise him for it. It is a common behavior.

beagle puppy Two Helpful Methods To Housetrain Your New Puppy

Just use characteristic dog conduct to get him back on track. A dog will hardly ever dirty his own room. So use a crate and make it cozy so he thinks of it as his own. Let him snooze in the crate and immediately as you let him out, take him to his chosen spot. He will need to alleviate himself right away and he will understand to only do it in that spot.

Housetraining does not need to be complicated or daunting. Both of these methods can be quite successful and if you try them along with some endurance you will be successful with your housetraining before you know it.

Crates have become a popular training method in recent times. They have helped dog owners train difficult dogs and have in fact influenced the number (reduced) of dog abandonment. Crates allow dogs to be trained in a safe secure environment.

Crates can be of great use when you are traveling and also for when you are house training your dog. They have many benefits, some of which I will outline below.

Debate over whether crates should be used for cog training is evident, most commonly between veterinarians and dog trainers. Many vets disapprove of crate training dogs while many professional dog trainers swear by it.

wet dogs Crate Training Dogs Tips and Tricks Exposed

Veterinarians question whether or not a dog is being inhumanely treated when it is enclosed in a crate. The fact is that crates have numerous benefits that lead to you having a better bond with your dog. Furthermore, when dogs are trained properly they have a sense of safety and security when they are inside their crates.

Other advantages to having a crate for your dog is that you will be able to leave your dog at home without worrying about them wrecking furnishings, or soiling your carpets and you give them a safe place to relax when you are away. Dogs tend not to go to the toilet in their bed, the crate will help you to teach them outside elimination, helps them to avoid having accidents in your home. It will also keep them from destroying your house while you are working and allows him to take family trips without feeling uncomfortable.

Avoid leaving your dog in its crate all day. They need an opportunity every few hours to stretch their legs and exercise if possible. You should also try to let them out every one in a while to go to the toilet.

Some dogs find crate training a breeze while others are not so passionate about it. Try to find out what works best for your dog and stick with it - always remember that no two dogs are the same so be prepared to be flexible.

Crate training works best when your dog is still a puppy. If you seem that no matter how persistent you are with your dog, you never get results, it might be time to stop attempting to use this method and to try a different one.

All new dog owners eventually have to tackle the challenge of housebreaking a puppy. Housebreaking a puppy requires the owner (or dog trainer) to be patient and consistent in their commands. Unfortunately on many occasions, dog owners give up to soon and their puppies end up staying in their crate most of the time.

Dogs that are properly trained are also very happy dogs, usually these dogs have been shown love, attention and patience. If you use these three things mixed with the ability to be firm and consistent, you will house break your puppy much more quickly.

Upon discovering that your puppy has made a mess on the carpet, or somewhere else in the house - don't yell at him. This is the last thing you should do. You also cannot let your dog get away with him mistake as this will leave your dog feeling like he's the boss. One thing that can work well is to keep your dog inside a crate when you are not watching it. You'll find that dogs hate to go to the toilet near where they sleep or eat, so in most cases your puppy will learn to wait till he's outside to go to the toilet.

Many of the dog owners or trainers swear by the crate during the breaking period, this method gives the puppy just enough space to eat and to sleep. This is their only little house where they are able to get away from it all. After you have actually finished the training period you will find that the crate will become his favorite place just to relax.

Usually you will find that your dog will need to eliminate in the early morning after they wake up, when they are finished with meals and in some cases after play time and before bed. You should allow your dog time to conduct his business outside, and then take him back in the home. It is best to follow this schedule and he will usually come to expect when he should be going to the bathroom. If you should be late then you may find that the dog may have an accident.

For people who live in downtown apartments or places that don't have outside space, paper training may be a more convenient way of housebreaking your dog. Paper training works by teaching your dog to always use the paper as his toilet spot. If you use paper training you'll need to replace the paper each day.

As your dog gets used to his new toilet schedule he will begin to let you know when he needs to go. He may start running round in circles, scratching at the door, or barking to signal that he needs to go outside. If this happens, let him go outside, then reward him with a small treat for the good behavior.
