Getting A Shih Tzu As A Pet

Not everyone wants a Labrador or a Beagle or even a Puggle as a pet. It is a fact that some people love Huskies, Chihuahuas, Terriers, Poodles and adorable Shih Tzu's. The last breed of dog is not one that would suit everyone but it cannot be denied that there is many a future dog owner looking around for a Shih Tzu puppy to buy.

Of course there may not be many people looking for a pet, who start their search by keeping a Shih Tzu in mind, but when most people look at this puppy, it seems that they cannot do anything to resist the inquisitive faces, the short upturned nose with the hair fanning out in all directions and the calm and adorable eyes staring at them overflowing with mischief.

A Shih Tzu puppy will make an ideal apartment pet as it doesn't mind being indoors and in fact, can be quite active when indoors as well. Shih Tzu's can also be quite indolent if they are allowed to be and more often than not you will find it lying around in various comfortable spots around your house.

This is the reason why you should never over feed your Shih Tzu puppy, as it can very easily become fat and lazy. The best thing is to keep your puppy well fed and fully exercised. If you live in an apartment then it is necessary that you take your puppy out for regular walks. However try not to overtire your puppy by going for long distance walks, as Shih Tzu is a small breed of dog and doesn't require a lot of exercise.

If you own a yard, then you should let your Shih Tzu puppy run a little and play in the yard for a while. A daily walks is a good way to exercise but using this method your puppy is getting regular sessions of exercise throughout the day.

Another thing about Shih Tzu dogs is that they can be very good watchdogs, as they are quite alert and tend to bark if they encounter something out of the ordinary. They do not normally bark out of turn and this is one of the reasons why you should consider getting a Shih Tzu puppy if you are living in an apartment.

It would be very nice to know that Shih Tzu dogs are nice and gentle with older children, except in certain conventional cases which can make them snappish like an old fashioned tail pulling and might not be the best kind of dogs in front of very young or mischievous children.

One advantage of having is Shih Tzu is that it is the ideal companion for people with allergies to dog hair. This is because of the fact that Shih Tzus' shed almost no hair and this quality makes them a good choice for people with allergies.
