Training using Crates

A lot of people have been using crates as a tool to use in puppy house training for several reasons. Dogs would normally not go to the bathroom in the same area that they sleep in, so keeping them in confinement such as the crate will help your pup to hold its urges to pee until he is detached from the crate. Once youve removed your dog from its crate, take him directly outdoors so he can do his business. And when he does, make sure that you offer the positive reinforcement so that it encourages him to use your backyard the next time he wants to pee or poop.

A crate being utilized in puppy house training will also provide a comfortable and safe place for your pet to sleep in when you are too busy to keep an eye on him. This is mostly useful when you are away from home or when you are sleeping or resting.

When you leave your pups unattended to their own devices can often become destructive. Having a crate will offer an atmosphere where he is unlikely to become injured or get into trouble. When it is your pups first time to use the crate, ensure that he stays in the crate for a short time, and just gradually extend his time in the crate as it gets more relaxed with its environment. Remember not to leave your dog in a crate for longer than 6 hours or 8 hours the most.

Cleaning the Mess

When your puppy does have an accident in the house, it is best to ignore the mess rather than put your pup's nose in it or scold him. Take your puppy outside to show him the proper place to potty and then clean up the mess while your dog is not around to watch you.

It is important to completely eliminate the smell while puppy house training, because a dog will return to the scent to potty again in the same spot. There are very good commercial cleaners on the market today that effectively clean up such messes.

Puppy house training is a process that requires plenty of time and patience, but it is far from impossible. With consistency and the help of a crate, your dog will learn the appropriate place to potty in no time. Puppy house training is the first step in raising a dog that is a pleasure to his entire family.

by Donna Mihajlov

Crate training benefits both your dog and yourself, the loving dog owner. Your dog will be more loving and affectionate towards family members when he understands his boundaries.

The Benefits of Crate Training Your Dog

Housebreaking Will Be Much Easier

No dog enjoys resting in his own mess, therefore your dog will tend to gain better bladder control when confined to his crate. This will make housebreaking easier when you then associate going outside with the act of relieving himself.

Dogs, being den animals, generally like their place clean and quiet. It is also good to remember that puppies need to go more often, so do not keep them in the crate for a long period.

A Crate Stops Destructive Behaviors

It is natural for your dog to enjoy chewing. They need to be taught what are acceptable things to chew on and prevent them from chewing on the wrong things, like chair legs, shoes, socks, etc. Consequently, your job is not to stop your dog from chewing, but provide the right things to chew on in the right place. By providing safe chew toys to your dog in his crate, you accomplish two things: you make the crate a wonderful place to be in and you teach him what are the acceptable chew toys in the house.

Dog Crates Protects Your Dog from Household Hazards

A house contains hundreds of potentially lethal objects for your dog. If you let your dog roams freely in the house unsupervised, you are really asking for trouble and you unnecessarily put your dog in danger. Your dog may not realize that chewing on electrical wires or eating plants or certain foods can potentially be dangerous.

Proper crate training of your dog provides more confidence that your dog will limit getting in trouble even when you are not around to supervise.

Traveling in a Car Is Safer

Your car trips will be safer and more peaceful if your dog is resting contently in his crate. A crate trained dog will eliminate any possible distractions as you drive.

Crates provides a safe place for your dog when he is tired, not feeling well or just wants to be alone.

Dog naturally seek refuge in small enclosed spaces like a den. Dog crates will provide your dog that nice place to hangout in when needing rest. Crate training your dog will also prepare him for potentially stressful situations like going to the vet.

Crate training a dog is not only good for your dog - but also good for you. Do yourself and your dog a favor and start crate training him today!

House Training A Dog – Easy Techniques

by Greg E. Johnson

Two of the things that you will have to get in the habit of exercising is will and patience. These are needed along with consistency to get positive results when you are house training a dog. Even though you will not be able to watch your dog around the clock, there are effective ways you can send a positive message to them to stop wetting the floor when you are not present.

Oh no, they pooped on the floor. Don't be alarmed in the early developmental stages because they will not have control of their bowel movement and bladder. The more they eat, the frequency increases.

1119651 4 House Training A Dog Easy Techniques

To start out, find a suitable, out of the way area to make a restricted home for the dog. Cover the floor with paper. Also cover the floor with their food, water, bed, and any play toys they enjoy. This is the first test. Typically, your dog will not potty on his bed or on his food or water. They may not care about the toys at the time.

This is a great way to begin training. The dog will begin to use the paper somewhere away from the places he enjoys or that are comforting to him. Finally, they will find a spot that they will always do it in. This will be their own self-discovered personal bathroom.

You're off to a very good start and the dog is learning. Once you have identified the dog is picky about where they do it in their confined area, it's time for the next step. Put paper around the house. When the dog has freedom in the house and goes to the bathroom on the floor, put his nose in the vicinity of it and take him to the paper on the floor. The dog is sensitive to the smell. If you practice this process with consistency, the dog will soon catch on and before you know it he will use the paper instead.

Over time the dog will go to the paper around the house when they have to do it. When they do be sure to get excited and congratulate them for a job well done. Go a step further and put papers in different locations and show the dog where they are at. If the dog continues using the paper in the new locations, you have accomplished the first steps in house training a dog. It is that easy.

The next feat is to finally get your dog to stop going in the house and head outside instead. This will be easy because dogs love the great outdoors. Position all of the paper on the floor near the doors leading to your backyard.

At this time, the dog is trained to use the paper. When he uses the paper as you have done such a good job training him to do, put their nose near it and point to the door. Then open the door and let him run out and play. By consistently repeating this process, your dog will soon catch on and will begin scratching the door when it is time to go potty.

Having Trouble Housebreaking Your Puppy?

Potty Train Your Dog in 7 Days - Find Out How!

by Peter Albertony

Having a puppy or a dog is a serious business. It's fun for sure, but there's some work involved. And one of the first things you'll need to tackle when you have a new puppy is house breaking your puppy. Potty training puppies is no picnic.

Unless you know what you're doing it can be quite hard house breaking puppy.

And if you get it wrong the results can be disastrous for your puppy, for you and for your family. House training a puppy correctly is a must.

And it may not even be a puppy you're house breaking. Not everyone starts with a puppy, some for various reasons end up with an adult dog. Not that it's impossible to house train an adult dog, but like a puppy you need to know what you're doing.

Now I'm not going to tell you all the steps to house breaking puppies here, I don't have the space or time, and I reserve that for my website. But I will offer a few tips here where I have space.

1205611 young dog enjoying a walk Having Trouble Housebreaking Your Puppy?

Firstly remember that you rule the house. In your dog or puppy's eyes you are the boss dog, you need to remember that. It is you who sets the rules and you who enforces them. This certainly doesn't mean that you punish your dog for breaking the rules of potty training, punishment isn't effective, but it does mean that you should learn exactly what you need to do to potty train your puppy, then follow through consistently.

Your dog expects you to set the rules and is looking to you to set effective boundaries on his behavior. So you need to be firm in setting the rules and teaching him what they are.

Instead of punishing your dog for a breach of the rules you need to use positive reinforcement. In the past it the accepted wisdom was to show him the rules, for example where his potty place was, then punish him for every breach till he got it right. This can take a long time and subject you both to a lot of stress.

And potty training a puppy is a process that takes as long as it takes. Regardless of how long it takes. Every dog or puppy is different. There is no recommended time, it will take as long as it takes. It will work if you're doing it right, it just may not work tomorrow.

It may take a while, it may not. Expect it to take while and be surprised if it doesn't.

House breaking a puppy is a process that both of you need to go through to the end. You need to learn exactly what to do, do it consistently for as long as it takes and you will succeed.

It's about you as much as it's about him. Know what you're doing and do it as long as you need to, consistently. Find out more advice about house breaking puppy at my website.

Some Basics For Housetraining Your Puppy

Discover How to Potty Train Your New Puppy in Just 7 Days!

by Eric Renfro

Puppies should be house trained as early as possible. Over 80% of dogs in the U.S. are kept inside the home by their owners. Failing to properly teach them to control their bladders and bowels will have frustrating consequences later. Fortunately, providing a healthy does of consistent discipline, patience, and attention upfront can help ensure your pup is housebroken early. There will be accidents, so plan for them. In the same way toddlers eventually learn to use the toilet, your puppy will also learn to avoid making a mess in your home.

free 281438 Some Basics For Housetraining Your Puppy

In this article, we'll describe two important ground rules that you should follow when housetraining your puppy. We'll also explain why establishing a routine is critical and how to handle the occasional accident when it happens.

Establishing The Ground Rules

Owners who are trying to housebreak their puppies often punish them when they make a mess, even if they don't catch them in the act. Avoid doing this. If you see you pup having an accident, a stern "no!" is good enough. There's no need for punishment; in fact, punishing him can have a negative effect.

Also, be generous with your praise. If your puppy is doing things properly, let him know. Remember, dogs need positive reinforcement from their owners. If you only reproach him when he makes a mess and neglect to recognize his successes, it will have a lasting effect.

The Value Of A Routine

The importance of a regular routine when house training your pup cannot be overstated. The repetition reinforces positive behavior. First, make sure you're providing your pup with plenty of opportunities to go outside; once every two hours is appropriate because they cannot control their bladders for long. Second, choose a specific spot outside that he can use to eliminate, and stick to it. If he has an accident, place the rags you use to clean it up in that spot. The odor will remind him where he is supposed to eliminate.

Third, establish a routine that includes regular feeding, playing, and walking time for him. That will help him adopt a consistent elimination schedule.

Paying Attention And Dealing With Accidents

When your pup is indoors, watch him. Don't allow him to roam freely throughout your house. That is an invitation for him to leave a hidden "surprise" for you. Instead, confine him to a certain area and pay attention to signs that he needs to eliminate. When you notice those signs, take him to his designated elimination spot and praise him for his success.

As noted, your puppy will have a few accidents. Don't punish him. If you catch him making a mess inside, interrupt him without scaring him (avoid yelling or chasing him). Take him to his designated area so he can finish. Then, praise him for it. Too many owners are quick to punish their puppies for having an accident. The result is that a pup learns to fear his owner.

Housetraining a puppy requires patience and diligence. However, if you approach it in the right manner, your pup will not only learn to control himself, he'll learn to trust you in the process.

Potty Training Methods for your Pet Dog

by Lucas

There is a new member in the household and no its not another human being. Having a dog around, to most people, is like having a dependable, loyal friend. Dogs can be cute, cuddly, playful- especially the little ones. Owners know they will feel greater attachment to dogs who started with them as puppies. Then there is the reality that you have to potty train them when they start littering around the house.

First important tip is to stick to a schedule when feeding the dog. This makes you anticipate his activity better. Be consistent in what you feed your dog, when you feed it, when you give it water and when you take the dog out for a walk.

Stick to dry food - one that makes his stool consistent. Good quality, dry food helps him develop good eating habits. It should also positively affect how solid his stools are, his potty schedule and his ability to control when he has the urge.

Once he shows the need, lead him to the designated place where he can do his thing. Show how he should position himself properly. Do this regularly. If he poops outside of the area, clean the mess immediately and mask the odor.

Use a handy leash to lead him around. You can take him outside for a walk once he is done. Dogs love spending time outside walking with their owners.

Don't take him back immediately. Let him have some fun. Praise him if he does it right. Reinforce the idea regularly.

Lastly, learn how to effectively communicate with the dog. This makes it a lot easier during the training process. Praise him whenever he does it right. All dogs love to praise their owners.

House Training For The New Puppy Owner

Get Your Free Dog Potty Training Tips - Go Here Now!

by Matt McGrath

It is always a fun and exciting time when you get a new puppy. Puppies melt your heart with their cute little antics and their adorable faces but as every new puppy owner soon learns there is one challenging aspect that they all must deal with and that is puppy house training.

You will need to work closely with and have patience with your new puppy when it comes to housetraining. A puppy is only a baby and a puppy does not have the comprehension level yet to know what you want him to do. It will be easier to complete your puppy house training if you are patient and loving with your puppy. Even though it is disappointing when your puppy goes potty in the house if you are impatient and express anger your puppy housetraining will take longer.

House Training For The New Puppy Owner

At the beginning you may need to take your puppy out as often as 2 to 3 times in an hour. That may sound like a lot but a little puppy does not yet understand how to control himself and the active playing that most puppies engage in creates urine. Nighttime may be better as a resting puppy will not need to go out as often. Do not wake a sleeping puppy just to go out to potty but rather just make sure and take him out as soon as you can after he awakens.

The most crucial aspect to puppy house training is to be consistent. Use consistent commands, take him to the same spot and give him the same praise and treats. Your puppy will learn fast if you consistently do things the same way but change anything up and he may get confused. Puppies respond well to consistency.

As you are housetraining your puppy you will need to make sure that the experience is as positive as possible for your puppy. If he ever develops any fear of your reactions or if he ever feels fear that he is doing it wrong your potty training efforts will take more time. Your puppy wants to please you and if he does not know how to do that it will take longer for him to learn about potty training.

It is unlikely that you will be able to spend all of your time with your puppy so when you need to be away from your puppy you should put him in a crate. Puppies and dogs are natural den animals and they crave a small place of their own. Also, puppies will rarely dirty their own space so a crate will assist you in teaching your puppy how to control himself.

The most important aspects of puppy house training are to be consistent and positive. Make sure that you take your puppy outside frequently, especially at the beginning. Always use just one spot for his elimination spot and use consistent commands. Give him lots of praise for completing his chore and make sure that the experience is not a scary one for him.

Puppy house training is the most crucial part of owning a new puppy and you can train your puppy in just a few short weeks if you are consistent and positive about the training. You will then be able to enjoy your puppy more as he grows and you will never have to worry about accidents in the house again.
